Why Give
Give to help a collegian succeed.
Give to reach out to an alumna in need.
Give to develop the next generation of leaders.
Give to lead the way to a more literate society.
Give to ensure the future of our sisterhood.
So much has been written about the founders of Pi Beta Phi. Pi Phi sisters know their stories well. What’s less well known is the kind of environment they encountered, as young collegians, in 1867.
Popular thought in that time held that women were too feeble-minded to be educated. There were organized movements to kick women off campus, and in those early years, popular schools of thought even held that educating women’s brains would literally inhibit the ability to bear children.
It sounds outrageous now, but that’s the environment in which Pi Beta Phi and the women’s fraternal movement began. Born of necessity, Pi Beta Phi and its counterparts paved the way for women in higher education in America and around the world.
Today, Pi Beta Phi is about much more than supporting a woman’s right to be educated. It’s about being sure every young collegiate member has the resources she needs to graduate, developing the next generation of outstanding women leaders and leading the way to a more literate society through philanthropic service and support.
Pi Beta Phi Foundation enables the Fraternity to realize its mission and ensures the future of our sisterhood. Gifts to Pi Beta Phi Foundation create societal benefit far beyond the scope of membership: in our communities, across our country, indeed around the world.
